Who We Are

About Our Organization

What We Do

Advocacy

Beyond Abuse is well known for its advocacy. Our founder, Steve Fisher, is a regular media spokesperson regarding sexual abuse, in particular institutional abuse. Using his own experiences, Steve did not want any survivor of abuse  to have to navigate himself or herself through the complex and confusing system that is currently in place.

Beyond Abuse works with governments to improve legislation and policy to provide better rights and services to survivors of abuse. For example Beyond Abuse has supported implementation of recommendations of the Royal Commission Into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse (criminal justice reforms and civil litigation reforms). Beyond Abuse has been active across Australia in supporting legislation to allow past unjust settlements to be set aside.

Our CEO

Steve Fisher

Executive Director

Steve was the first person in Tasmania to be afforded a court order to be named in the media as a survivor of Sexual Abuse and assisted with the law reform to allow survivors to identify themselves without needing a court order.

Beyond Abuse maintains associations with colleagues in other states, including Queensland, New South Wales, South Australia and the ACT who can give advice and help survivors get the justice they deserve.
